By background, I am a commercial lawyer, but these days I practice in-house. While working in law, I also started engaging in sports media, covering Australian sport across digital platforms, social media and podcasting.

My commercial experience and passion for sport has led me to sports management. I pride myself on athlete care while having extensive experience in sports media, advertising, sponsorship and contract negotiation. I am committed to being part of the growth and opportunities in the delivery of sports across Australia while providing authentic engagement for athletes, clubs and fans with the world of sport.

While I started out in a big agency, where AFL and NRL were key drivers of the business, I knew from my media days that I had a curiosity and love for more diverse sports, where athletes are unique and have the opportunity to chart their own path. That's why I ended up going solo and starting Coppel Sports - to partner with athletes who want to control their sporting career in a different way.

My name is Dan Coppel. I am passionate about the business of sport, and energised by working with athletes to maximise their careers and leave a positive imprint on their sport and the world.

ABOUT ME

My athletic experience

My athletic career wasn't all that long, or successful as a pathway athlete. I was a passable cricketer, and better as an umpire than a footballer, but I always loved sport and loved staying fit.

More recently, I have taken up cycling and triathlon, including a 70.3 Ironman triathlon and a marathon, so I have a rough idea of the athlete experience.

My media experience

At the start of my career, alongside my corporate role, I started working in sports media on nights and weekends. I covered 3 SSN seasons, 2 Olympics & Paralympics (Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022), 2 AFL seasons and a home FIFA Women's World Cup.

Alongside writing across two platforms, I also ran multiple podcasts for the different competitions I covered.

My legal experience

Across my corporate career, I have worked across a few law firms, and a number of different practice areas.

I started working in insurance, then turned to commercial litigation, and later commercial contracts and M&A. My legal CV is best explained on my Linkedin, but safe to say I've seen more contracts in my life than most people should.

My agency experience

In the agencies that I have worked with, I have partnered with athletes across Australia's sporting landscape.

In that time, I have worked and successfully helped a number of athletes take their sporting careers to new heights, whether thats commercialising existing success, or helping them find opportunities to have success.
